Types of steel offered at Synertek
Our steel and galvanized steel manufacturing experts work with two types of steel. We use Cold Rolled Steel, commonly known as CR steel when it is thinner or equal to 14 GA. When steel is thicker than 14 GA, it is HRPO steel, also known as Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled or Hot Rolled Steel.
The main advantages of CR steel are:
- Better consistency when folding;
- A more regular, even and less porous surface;
- Better thickness tolerance;
Thicker material (12 GA and more) is used for support parts a little more rigid. The precision of CR steel is often no longer necessary and since this type of steel is more expensive, there is no need to keep this material in these thicknesses.
Concerning HRPO steel, its advantages are as follows:
- Less expensive since it requires much less treatment than CR steel;
- Free from internal stresses which may be caused by the quenching or hardening process;
