What exactly is metal clinching?

As a rule, clinching is a fairly simple operation that serves to assemble two pieces by deformation. One of the two parts of the assembly will be deformed without crushing; which is called clinching.

In mechanics, clinching serves to immobilize the parts without the need for welding, which avoids creating heat-affected areas (HAA). Your parts will, therefore, be easier to assemble, have some resistance to tension and torsion, and will be more aesthetic than a part that would have been welded.

The advantages of metal clinching

Metal clinching has many advantages such as facilitating assembly since parts already have hardware and fixtures.

Besides this important advantage, here are some of the other benefits of having a metal clinching service.

  • Metal clinching makes it possible to have resistant threads, even in very thin material
  • It also offers very good tensile strength and torsion strength
  • It has a low installation cost
  • Some PEM families provide a flat surface on the opposite side for  a more aesthetic finish
  • It does not require deburring or chamfering
  • Fewer parts to handle because it easily replaces multiple hardware types
  • Allows more elaborate assemblies because many fasteners are available for electronic components

Synertek offers dozens of types of metal clinching to better meet the needs of its customers. We always make sure to offer you the service that best suits your production needs.
